Don’t just play through it

Still hurting after the game?

Bumps and soreness come with being active. But pain that lingers, keeps coming back or changes how you move deserves a closer look.

An exam gives you answers: what’s going on, what to do about it, and how to get back to the activities you love.

Signs it’s time to get checked

  • Pain that lingers after a game or workout
  • Swelling or stiffness in a joint
  • Pain that changes how you run, throw or swing
  • Low back or neck pain from training
  • Numbness or tingling down an arm or leg
  • An old injury that keeps flaring up

Your doctor has been there

It started with a soccer injury

As a kid in Athens, a soccer injury sent Jay Erickson to a local chiropractor — and he walked out feeling better than when he walked in. Years later, after a motorcycle accident on Baxter Street, Dr. Jerry Chastain got him walking again.

Those experiences set the course for his life: chiropractic school, then coming home to take over Dr. Chastain’s practice. Today he and Dr. Brandi help active people of every age get back to the things they love.

Patient stories

Back on their feet

I had a very bad cycling accident with multiple injuries and Dr Jay has put me back together! He has been able to pinpoint the exact spots where the damage was and fix all of them. He and his staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. It’s great to have them in my life!

Doug Stroup

For months I have been in sometimes severe pain with tendinitis in both my feet. … Today on a visit for my back he checked out my feet and did an adjustment. My right foot is pain free tonight for the first time in months! and my left is much better. He explained to me why the bone alignment was aggravating the tendons. Here’s to Dr Jay! I am so grateful.

When to get medical care first

If you hit your head and have a headache, confusion, dizziness or vomiting; think a bone may be broken or a joint is out of place; can’t put weight on an arm or leg; or have numbness, weakness, or loss of bladder or bowel control, go to an emergency room or call 911 before seeing a chiropractor.

Questions

Sports injury FAQ

What active patients ask us most.

See all questions
Can a chiropractor help with sports injuries?

Chiropractic care is commonly used for the back pain, neck pain, joint pain and muscle strains that come with an active life. After a thorough exam, your doctor will recommend care that fits your injury — and tell you if you need to see another provider.

When should I get a sports injury checked?

If pain lingers for more than a few days, keeps coming back, or changes how you move, it’s worth an exam. Call us at (706) 353-7778. If you think you’ve broken a bone, hit your head, or can’t put weight on an arm or leg, go to an emergency room first.

Do you see student athletes and kids who play sports?

Yes. We care for patients of all ages, and Dr. Brandi has a particular focus on children. Care for kids is adapted to each child’s age and size. More about pediatric care.

What should I bring to my first visit for a sports injury?

Your completed new patient form (it has a section for sports injuries, and you can fill it in on your computer and email it to us), a photo ID, your health insurance card, and the names of any athletic trainer, physical therapist or doctor you’ve seen for the injury.

I’m not hurt. Can chiropractic help me stay active?

Many of our patients come in for regular wellness visits to keep moving well, along with guidance on exercise, nutrition and rest. More about wellness care.
