Sports injuries

Can a chiropractor help with sports injuries?

Chiropractic care is commonly used for the back pain, neck pain, joint pain and muscle strains that come with an active life. After a thorough exam, your doctor will recommend care that fits your injury — and tell you if you need to see another provider.

When should I get a sports injury checked?

If pain lingers for more than a few days, keeps coming back, or changes how you move, it’s worth an exam. Call us at (706) 353-7778. If you think you’ve broken a bone, hit your head, or can’t put weight on an arm or leg, go to an emergency room first.

Do you see student athletes and kids who play sports?

Yes. We care for patients of all ages, and Dr. Brandi has a particular focus on children. Care for kids is adapted to each child’s age and size. More about pediatric care.

What should I bring to my first visit for a sports injury?

Your completed new patient form (it has a section for sports injuries, and you can fill it in on your computer and email it to us), a photo ID, your health insurance card, and the names of any athletic trainer, physical therapist or doctor you’ve seen for the injury.

I’m not hurt. Can chiropractic help me stay active?

Many of our patients come in for regular wellness visits to keep moving well, along with guidance on exercise, nutrition and rest. More about wellness care.

Chiropractic care

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care profession focused on the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and how problems there affect your overall health. Chiropractic care is hands-on and drug-free: your doctor finds areas of the spine that aren’t moving or lining up as they should and uses adjustments to help correct them.

What do people see a chiropractor for?

Chiropractic care is most often used for back pain, neck pain, joint pain and headaches. Many of our patients also come in for sciatica, after a sports or other injury, or for regular wellness visits to keep feeling their best. Learn about back, neck & sciatica care.

Do you see pregnant patients?

Yes. Dr. Brandi Erickson has a particular focus on caring for expecting mothers, and prenatal visits are adapted to each stage of pregnancy. More about prenatal care.

Do you treat babies and children?

Yes. We care for patients of all ages, and Dr. Brandi has a particular focus on infants and children. Care for kids is adapted to each child’s age and size. More about pediatric care.

What is wellness or maintenance care?

Wellness care means regular chiropractic visits even when you’re feeling good — along with guidance on nutrition, exercise and rest — to help keep your spine and nervous system working well and catch small problems early.

Do you sell supplements?

Yes. We carry supplements in the office, and Dr. Jay has continuing education in nutrition and supplementation. Ask either doctor which ones make sense for you.

About the practice

Is Erickson Chiropractic and Wellness the same practice as Erickson Chiropractic?

Yes. Erickson Chiropractic and Wellness is the official name of Dr. Jay M. Erickson, D.C. and Dr. Brandi Erickson, D.C.’s practice at 650 Oglethorpe Avenue Suite #4 in Athens. Older listings may still show Erickson Chiropractic, Erickson Chiropractic Office or Dr. Jay Erickson’s name — it’s all the same practice.

How long have you been in Athens?

More than 20 years. Dr. Jay grew up in Athens, and he and Dr. Brandi came home to take over Dr. Jerry Chastain’s practice when he retired.

Who are the doctors?

Dr. Jay Erickson and Dr. Brandi Erickson are both graduates of the University of Georgia and Sherman College of Chiropractic. Dr. Jay focuses on nutrition, spinal alignment and wellness care; Dr. Brandi focuses on expecting mothers, infants and children. Meet the doctors.
